The National Beef Backer Awards contest recognizes and honors chain and independent foodservice operators who excel in menuing and marketing beef. To compete for the national title, restaurants must first win their state contest. Mortimer's was named the "Innovator of the Year" by the Idaho Beef Council in 2006. Other Idaho winners included Ernie's Steakhouse and 41 Club of Grangeville (Independent Operator Overall Winner), Montana Steakhouse of Twin Falls (1st Runner Up, Independent Operator), and Lou's Westside Drive-In of Boise (2nd Runner Up, Independent Operator).
