2005 National Beef Cook-Off

The National Beef Cook-Off is a biennial contest created in 1974 by the American National CattleWomen, Inc. (ANCW) and the National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA).  It is now administered by ANCW on behalf of the Cattlemen's Beef Board and State Beef Councils.  The Cook-Off is sponsored by America's Beef Producers, through their $1-per-head checkoff program.

2005 Grand Prize Winner

Blazin' Colorado Steaks

Linda Morten brought home the beef and the cash at the 2005 National Beef Cook-Off held on September 21, 2005 in Rapid City, South Dakota.  Her $50,000 winning recipe - Blazin' Colorado Steaks - was chosen the "Best of Beef" at this year's contest.

The 2005 Cook-Off focused on the passion Americans have for beef - and the special times they share when families enjoy beef dishes together.  To underscore the connection beef has with families, the Cook-Off introduced a "Family Favorites" category this year, which showcases original beef recipes that families enjoy eating during the week, or for a special occasion.  Thousands of home cooks entered their favorite recipes into the following categories: Market Basket, Grilled Beef, Family Favorites, and "Inspired By" Beef Recipes.  A panel of five distinguished judges rated each recipe based on taste, ease of preparation, and appearance.  In addition to the "Best of Beef" grand prize, the Cook-Off also honored category winners and category runners-ups.  This year's winners are:

Market Basket

Winner: Pan Seared Steaks with Romesco Sauce (Sharyn Hill, New Mexico)
Runner Up: Blackstrap Steaks with Caramelized Onions (Patricia Schroedl, Wisconsin)

Grilled Beef
